Much of my work is an attempt to distill beautiful shapes, forms, and textures in nature and the city. Ususally these subjects have resonated with other ideas and images in my mind and soul. Often in watercolor landscapes, I’m trying also to capture a certain mood, to evoke in the viewer a response to what has moved me.
My early watercolors were more realistic; later work has become more abstract, as I attempt to further distill what I love most in a scene. In geoencaustics, the tactile qualities of the wax invite the viewer to identify more strongly with the surface forms in rocks and landscapes. At this life stage I’m interested in passing on memories of the previous generations of my family. Hence the art boxes and assemblages.
